Where do you live?
Currently
in Winter Park, FL and Hood River, Oregon in the summer, and in
the winter I go to my house in La Ventana, Baja, near Cabo San
Lucas.
What's the best/worst thing about where you live?
The
best thing about Hood River is that it is one of the most beautiful
places in the world, but the worst thing is that the water is
umm yeah really cold except for one month out of the year.
How do you think your friends would describe you?
Adventurous.
Have you ever laughed so hard you've made a snorting noise that
some people make?
Yeah
with my girlies in the DR. Those were the days.
What does a guy have to do to get a date with you?
His
name would have to be Joey Pasquali...
What first inspired you to begin kiting?
Seeing some
guys flying around while I was on a vacation in Maui.
When and how did you learn to kite?
My
dad and I took a lesson from Dave Tyburski at Newinds Kiteschool.
Were you hooked immediately?
Yes, but I
didn’t do it again for two years until I finished high school,
and then I moved down to Hood River to learn how to do it!
How long did it take for you to bust your first air?
I don’t
think it took very long, but I’m sure the first one was
a mistake!
Describe the feeling it gave you?
I was hooked!
How often do you get to ride?
Every day that
it is windy or that I am not traveling.
What other sports do you, or did you do?
I used to snowboard
competitively and play soccer, but I haven’t since I started
kiting.
How would you describe your style, and does it in any way reflect
your dancing style?
Low
and powered…
What sets you apart from other kiters?
I think that
I am one of the younger (and shorter) girls in the sport, so I
guess that sets me apart from most.
What has been your scariest moment in kiting so far?
Landing on
a shark at Islamorada while my kite fell on a 50-foot yacht.
How did your Slingshot sponsorship come about?
I
was in contact with them after I started wakeskating because they
were just getting into the wake industry also.
Which other riders influence you most and why?
Fast explosive
wake-style riders like Moi, Andre, and Jason stone.
Where is your favorite place to kite?
The Pass, Byron
Bay Australia- that is where my cover was taken. Second would
be La Paguera, Puerto Rico… it is beautiful too. I also
love the flat water and terrain park in Hatteras…
Where would you like to travel to kiteboard?
I want to discover
all of the waves and flat water spots in tropical places all around
the world. The flatter and more beautiful the better!
Describe your ideal day on the water?
Flat FLAT shallow
warm electric blue water with a reef and waves on the outside,
10 or 12 meter kite, kickers and sliders.
Now tell me what in the world you would swap that for?
Not a lot..
but maybe one or two things… ;)
Who do you like to ride with?
I
like to ride with friends, and my parents who both kite.
Who would you like to ride with?
My parents,
I don’t get to very often.
What do you do off the water to help you on the water?
Basically
I do some sport every day. I also run two miles a day and do yoga.
What advice would you give to women wanting to start kiting but
think it's too hard?
How would they
think it’s too hard when they haven’t tried?
What new tricks are you learning?
I’m in
the process of learning mobes, and other cool unhooked kiteloops
and stuff. I have my unhooked indy grab back roll to blind handle
pass down now, that is fun.
Views (contests, etiquette, industry, gear manufacturers)
I like contests,
but I am not to into doing “the tour”. I prefer doing
travel stories and videos, because I feel like I gain more and
it benefits my sponsors better. Also the industry is slightly
corrupt- so watch your back and don’t always believe everything!
What do you like best about kiting?
The feeling
of riding fast across the slickest water possible while listening to my H20 Audio music.
Biggest challenges?
Being the best
person that I can- it’s hard!
Where do you see the sport heading?
The
sport is trying to follow wakeboarding now, and I see it getting
even crazier with simple things being thrown in with those tricks.
Memorable moments? (sessions-good or bad, places, friends, conditions)
Those awesome
days on the kickers and sliders in Hatteras with all my friends,
and the perfectly beautiful conditions in La Paguera, Puerto Rico
at the Kitehouse. Also the eXtreme Hotel downwind sessions to
Encuentro with Chuck Patterson in the Dominican, those waves were
SO fun!
Complaints? (general or kiting related)
Don’t
be a kook and cut me off because I’m a girl!
Who would you like to thank or give props to?
My
parents. They have been there for me my whole life! And my hot
boyfriend Joey ;)
Final comments?
Some people
make things happen, some people watch things happen, and others
say “what happened?”
